Some Of Our Supporters
For at least five years, the Virtual University of Small States of the Commonwealth has offered opportunities for participating countries to send participants to face-to-face training in a computer laboratory. In preparation for a reduced travel model to follow the initial years, online training was introduced in 2008.
Costs of travel, accommodation and visas for meetings and training workshops were paid for from funds received from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, The Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC) and the Commonwealth of Learning.
Support from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation allowed some of VUSSC’s first meetings in Singapore in 2006 to create open educational resources.
The Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation has provided £1 million Sterling to COL over four years from July 2006 to June 2010 for the Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth to support the development of additional learning content. It also supported two similar workshops in 2007, which involved more small states of the Commonwealth, and which focused on professional development of educators and life skills for youth.
COL is actively looking for funds to support VUSSC content creation. Development agencies and others that are interested in pursuing this opportunity are encouraged to contact Mr. John Lesperance, COL, Education Specialist, Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth.
