Training and Support
The Virtual University of Small States of the Commonwealth team is keen to support teachers and administrators as your educational institution begins to participate in VUSSC. Training sessions are typically hands-on for teachers and administrators and focus on the key points that you will need to know to begin to collaborate online using VUSSC.
What training do we offer?
Teachers and administrators can participate in face-to-face training on-site and then continue to collaborate online to create open and distance learning materials.
- Face-to-face training
To date, nearly 200 people have participated in face-to-face workshops. These participants have trained others in their home countries. An important by-product of the workshops is that each participant passes on the ICT skills they have acquired to other colleagues once they get home, thus increasing substantially the pool of ICT-capable people in the ministries and institutions of each country.
- Online collaboration
Participants in our face-to-face workshops maintain contact long afterwards using a service called “Basecamp,” which is available on a subscription basis.
- Online discussion forums
The Commonwealth of Learning and UNESCO organises occasional online discussion forums on aspects of open educational resources. This is part of a joint COL/UNESCO initiative entitled “Taking OER beyond the OER Community: Policy and Capacity”
Three of these online conversations have taken place to date:
- 23 – 29 September 2010: “Taking OER beyond the OER Community: Policy and Capacity”
- 20 – 26 October 2010: “What works, what does not and under what conditions?”
- 10 – 16 November 2010: “Copyright and the development and re-use of OERs”
